UCIMR Announces the 23rd Edition of the ICon Arts Transilvania Academy
The Union of Interpreters’ Creative Union of Musicians in Romania (UCIMR) announces the 23rd edition of the ICon Arts Transilvania Festival, one of the longest-running festivals dedicated to classical music, jazz, and the most vibrant creations in contemporary arts. Over 16 days, this year's ICon Arts edition aims to bring together about 160 participants in the heart of Transylvania, where they will be inspired by the local cultural heritage landmarks.
From July 26 to August 11, the villages and towns of Transylvania (Biertan, Brașov, Copșa Mare, Moșna, Râșnov, Richiș, Rusești, Sibiu) will host exceptional musical events, such as classical music, contemporary music, and jazz concerts, interdisciplinary artistic residencies, and masterclasses for performers.
This year’s edition of the ICon Arts Festival features an eclectic, multidisciplinary, and multicultural program, where the virtuosity of music intertwines with the picturesque atmosphere of Transylvanian villages and towns and the tasting of traditional dishes, delighting the audience.
“For twenty-three summers, ICon Arts has brought together musicians from different continents, from different generations, who play different instruments, speak different languages, but create perfect synergy, harmony, both among themselves and with the local community. The villages and towns of Transylvania are a magnet and an inexhaustible source of inspiration, where tranquility, picturesque views, colors, nature, historical landmarks, and people are part of the ICon Arts charm. We are glad to offer a non-formal and even informal learning experience, as well as a personal development context for young musicians. Over time, the participants have become formidable artists and even teachers at the Academy, and this is our greatest joy.” – Sebastian Gheorghiu, Cultural Manager and Member of the UCIMR Board of Directors.

ICon Arts Transilvania Festival
The efforts of young musicians during the training programs will culminate in the concerts and recitals scheduled for July and August, held in places of worship, institutions, and private properties eager to host art. In addition to the participants, the ICon Arts Festival events will feature the mentors from the Academy’s masterclasses as well as new guest performers for this edition, who will perform in the counties of Sibiu and Brașov.
Registrations for the ICon Arts Academy can be made on the official festival website by reserving one of the two available packages (1,000 lei and 3,000 lei) until June 15, 2025. The first package includes access to the training sessions, while the latter also offers accommodation with meals on a half-board basis.
ICon Arts Artistic Residencies
This year, two artistic residencies will be organized: one for classical composition – in partnership with the Contemporary Music Center from Dublin (CMC), and one for jazz – in partnership with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Lucerne. Musicians selected to participate will benefit from mentoring by renowned artists from Romania (Ana Cristina Leonte, Ciprian Pop) and Switzerland (Sara Buechi). More details about the residencies will be available soon.
In addition to the ICon Arts Festival, UCIMR organizes traditional emblematic events such as The Jazz Cave, CellEAST Festival, concerts for Romania's National Day and New Year's Eve in Sibiu. More details can be found on the ICon Arts and UCIMR websites.
