The Aiud International Folklore Festival, now in its 13th edition, will take place this year from August 6 to 10, in Dr. Constantin Hagea Square in Aiud.
Our municipality will host over 300 dancers and performers, members of folklore ensembles from: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Colombia, Egypt, Greece, Mexico, Serbia and Ukraine.
Along with these international ensembles, the Aiud audience will also enjoy the presence on the festival stage of renowned bands from Romania:
– Dor Transilvan Folk Ensemble,
– Valea Târnavelor Folk Ensemble,
– Pipacs Hungarian Dance Ensemble from Ciumbrud,
– the beloved Doina Aiudului Folk Ensemble.
The festival will start on Wednesday, August 6, with an anniversary show held by the Doina Aiudului Folklore Ensemble, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.
In the following evenings, all the ensembles will take to the festival stage, delighting the audience with their wonderful traditional costumes, music and dances specific to each country, without missing the surprises prepared for this royal folklore event.
The traditional parade of folk costumes will take place on Saturday, at 09:30, and Aiud residents are invited to come into contact with the traditions, customs, music and dances brought by the participating ensembles.
The organizers of the Aiud International Folklore Festival are:
– Alba County Council,
– Aiud City Hall and Local Council,
– “Augustin Bena” Alba Cultural Center,
– “Liviu Rebreanu” Aiud Multicultural Center.
This is the only event in Alba County organized under the aegis of CIOFF – the International Council of Folklore Festival Organizers, an official partner of UNESCO, and the second largest festival of its kind in Romania organized under the same aegis.
