Celebrate a Meaningful Easter with Family Adventures Across Attractive Romania
"No journey is made without a purpose. Even walks—innocent as they may be—carry with them a sense of renewal or restoration, a search for peace or a rediscovery of one’s rhythm of thought. Pilgrimages are not just simple walks. They bear the mark of peace. Of discovery. Of the joy of shared experience and of the beauty that unites us."

The quote above belongs to Father Constantin Necula and we hope it inspires you to spend a different kind of Easter—marked by introspection and discovery—along the Attractive Romania routes. The landmarks and routes we recommend will reveal even more of their beauty and significance during this time and are perfect for family exploration, offering opportunities for active learning about the romanian national culture and history. Here’s what we suggest you visit this Easter holiday!

See the Houses That Imitate Painted Eggs in the Village of Ciocănești

We make our first stop in the commune of Ciocănești in Suceava County, 20 km from the town of Vatra Dornei. The commune consists of the villages Ciocănești and Botoș, which embrace the Bistrița Aurie river. Leontina Țăran, a hardworking local with a love for beauty, began the tradition that made the residents of this commune famous—decorating her house with painted egg patterns. That’s how this settlement became a museum-commune in 2004. No painted belt is identical to another, and each tells the story of those who lived in and cared for these homes—people who love beauty. Today, 600 of the local homes are designated heritage houses.

The very existence of such a place is an invitation—an immersion into the authentic essence of its people, its land, and our material and spiritual folk culture. A perfect destination for the Easter holiday. You can learn more about it here.

Rediscover Simplicity and Humbleness on the Wooden Churches Route

Scattered across Romania, hidden among hills and orchards, the little wooden churches bring joy not only to pilgrims but to all who seek beauty. We enter these sacred places with reverence, admiring the ancient, naïve art—forgotten sculptures and frescoes from another time, rich in faith and legend. We feel our hearts beat more gently beneath the curved wooden ceilings. Once filled with villagers, now silent, they invite us to breathe in simplicity and humility, alongside the scent of old oak walls, incense, and candles.

Dozens of such sanctuaries await your visit—look for those near your location in the app and make time to visit at least one before Easter. The full list is available here.

Discover the Ancestral Beauty of the Monasteries in Moldova

On the Monasteries Route in Moldova, we come to know the Romanian heritage—built, crafted, and told. Both foreigners and Romanians are called by the sound of the wooden clappers, bowing their heads at the morning chants. We find shelter just like the devout rulers of old and are enriched by the beauty of the mural paintings—red at Humor, yellow at Coșula, or green at Arbore. Here, we discover the most inspired paintings, the most intricate embroideries, all born from years of craftsmanship and prayer. These jewels of Romanian heritage, some now UNESCO-recognized, welcome us with reverence.

It’s a bold journey to visit them all, for they are many and all beautiful. But what better time than the days leading up to Easter? Start planning your trip here.

We end our list of recommendations with another quote from Father Necula, to guide and brighten your holiday. Happy Easter to all!

“Allow me to ask you to rejoice. Lines of spiritual strength still cross the physical and spiritual geography of this land. Take and read, rejoice and discover. Brotherhood compels us to live together. Let us do so, joyfully, with one another. Bringing joy to God!”
